For many dentists, practice ownership represents the opportunity to build a team, shape a culture and deliver care according to their values. Brooke Kovinsky, DDS, achieved that milestone in less than a year. Her journey from associate dentist to practice owner highlights how mentorship, leadership and opportunity can accelerate professional growth.
A Remarkable Rise: From Associate to Owner
Dr. Kovinsky joined PDS Health in September 2024, stepping into Port Orange Modern Dentistry in Orange, Florida, just one week after a two-hour conversation with a recruiter that changed everything. What was expected to be a 15-minute call became the beginning of a new chapter in her career.
“I didn’t go into Port Orange thinking that I was just an associate,” Dr. Kovinsky shared. “I went in with the idea that I’m going to treat my patients and my team members as if they are my team.”
From day one, Dr. Kovinsky approached the role with the mindset of a future practice owner, investing in her patients, supporting her team and embracing every opportunity to grow. During her time at Port Orange Modern Dentistry, the practice was recognized as Most Improved Office of the Year at PDS Health's annual internal awards program.
By January 2025, Dr. Kovinsky transitioned to Clermont Modern Dentistry in Clermont, Florida, where she completed the purchase of the practice and became its owner.
Learning Through Mentorship
Dr. Kovinsky credits much of her success to what she calls a “barrage of mentorship” from leaders across PDS Health.
“They saw the potential in me, but they are actively helping me reach it,” she said. “What more could you ask for? These people have supported me and helped me grow and taught me so many lessons.”
The guidance she received helped her build confidence as a clinician, strengthen her leadership skills and prepare for the responsibilities of practice ownership.
“When I interviewed, one of the first things a clinical leader said to me was, ‘The only thing that will be asked of you is to treat people properly, make people happier and healthier in the most honest and predictable way.’ That was all I needed to hear,” Dr. Kovinsky recalled.
Leading with Purpose
Today, as the practice owner of Clermont Modern Dentistry, Dr. Kovinsky is putting those lessons into action by building the kind of culture she envisioned from the very beginning.
“It’s not overwhelming because I’m supported in all aspects,” she said. “I went in with the understanding that I’d have to find a way to get this team to want to be successful with me. I prioritize building them up so they feel bought in and respected.”
Her leadership philosophy centers on trust, collaboration and creating an environment where both team members feel valued and supported.
Inspired by a Larger Vision
Attending the annual New Practice Owner Meeting further reinforced her belief in the opportunities available through PDS Health.
“I was taken aback at the magnitude of everything,” she said. “It was so inspiring to see these leaders in dentistry who have been doing this work for decades still have so much passion and dedication. PDS Health has created an environment, culture and platform that, if you follow it, you can do phenomenal things.”
Looking Ahead
For Dr. Kovinsky, becoming a practice owner is just the beginning. As she continues building her practice and developing her team, she remains focused on providing exceptional patient care and creating opportunities for others to grow.
Her journey reflects PDS Health's commitment to helping clinicians grow into confident leaders and practice owners. Through mentorship, leadership development and a proven path to ownership, PDS Health creates opportunities for dentists to build meaningful careers while improving the health of the patients and communities they serve.
